Jewellery Care

Sterling Silver will naturally tarnish and blacken (oxidise) over time if it it is stored incorrectly, or not regularly worn. The friction of being worn, along with the natural oils in skin keep your jewellery bright and shiny.

When it is not being worn, your silver jewellery should be stored in an jewellery box or airtight bag away from moisture/direct light where possible. To avoid tarnishing/damage to your jewellery, it should always be removed before undertaking heavy work (gardening/gym etc).

Certain Perfumes, Cosmetics and Chemicals can adversely affect your items, so remove jewellery when cleaning, showering, swimming, and applying cosmetics etc. Care should be taken not to snag delicate jewellery when wearing loose knit clothing/scarves etc.

If your item becomes tarnished, you can clean it using warm water, mild detergent and an old toothbrush. All purchases from Frances Greenwood Jewellery come with a small polishing cloth, which can be used to remove tarnish and brighten your jewellery.
